Christ is Worthy

Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

Resurrection of Christ

Christ is Risen

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of Christian faith — the event in which sin and death were defeated, hope was restored, and God’s redemptive plan was revealed in full.

Following His crucifixion, the tomb was found empty, and He appeared to multiple eyewitnesses. This defining event is celebrated by Christians around the world as Easter.

Before the events now associated with Easter morning, the Gospels record the crucifixion of Jesus — an execution carried out publicly and witnessed by many. The Gospels present His death as purposeful — an act of sacrificial love and fulfillment of prophecy.

The Crucifixion: The Path to Resurrection

Key Scriptures:

Isaiah 53:5: "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

Acts 2:23: "Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:"

Acts 4:10: "Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole."

Acts 5:30: "The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree."

Acts 10:39: "And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:"

Acts 13:29: "And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre."

1 Corinthians 1:23: "But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;"

1 Corinthians 2:2: "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified."

1 Corinthians 2:8: "Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory."

Galatians 3:13: "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:"

1 Peter 2:24: "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed."

1 Corinthians 15:3-4 "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"

The Empty Tomb: Dawn of New Life

On the third day, now celebrated as Easter Sunday, the women came to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body. Instead, they found the stone already rolled away. The tomb was open, and the body was gone. According to the Gospels, angels appeared to them and announced that Jesus had risen.

This fulfilled the Scriptures and set in motion the message that would soon be carried to the world.

It marks the beginning of the Church age, the Age of Grace, when the Gospel was first proclaimed and began to spread like fire across the world — the literal fulcrum of human history.

Gospel Accounts:

Matthew 28:5-6 "And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay."

Mark 16:6 "And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him."

Luke 24:5-7 "And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again."

John 20:1 "The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre."

Appearances of the Risen Christ

Over the next forty days, Jesus appeared to many witnesses. He spoke with them, shared meals, and provided tangible proof of His resurrection.

Recorded Appearances:

Mary Magdalene - Jesus first appeared to Mary Magdalene at the tomb (John 20:11-18; Mark 16:9).

The Other Women - Jesus appeared to the other women who came to the tomb (Matthew 28:9-10).

Two Disciples on the Road to Emmaus - Jesus walked with two disciples on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35; Mark 16:12-13).

The Disciples Without Thomas - Jesus appeared to the disciples in a room, but Thomas was not present (John 20:19-23; Luke 24:36-43).

The Disciples With Thomas - Eight days later, Jesus appeared again to the disciples, this time with Thomas present (John 20:24-29).

The Disciples at the Sea of Galilee - Jesus appeared to seven of the disciples while they were fishing (John 21:1-14).

The Great Commission - Jesus appeared to the eleven disciples on a mountain in Galilee and gave the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20).

James - Jesus appeared to James, His brother (1 Corinthians 15:7).

The Apostles - Jesus appeared to all the apostles at His ascension (Acts 1:4-9; Luke 24:44-53).

Ascension

Forty days after His resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven, completing His earthly ministry as the Son of Man, beginning His role as Christ, and taking His place at the right hand of God.

Scriptural Accounts:

Mark 16:19 "So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God."

Luke 24:50-51 "And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven."

Acts 1:3 "To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:"

Acts 1:9-11 "And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven."

The Meaning of the Resurrection for Believers

The Resurrection is not only a historical event — it is a living hope that continues to inspire and transform.

Its significance includes:

Easter invites believers to embrace this hope with joy, gratitude, and renewed devotion.

Closing Reflection

The Resurrection of Christ stands as the radiant center of the Christian story — a reminder that darkness does not have the final word. As Easter celebrates new life, we are invited to reflect on the hope, beauty, and triumph of that message.

“He is risen indeed.”
